AEG Full-ISO ARE H5 Handheld Reader
The ARE H5 from AEG is a full ISO handheld reader for animal identification with a long reading range. The battery-operated device includes a USB HID interface, an internal memory for over 2000 readings and many other useful functions. For example, a text and an attribute can be assigned to the read transponders, which then appear in the second line below the code on the display, thus allowing additional information to be stored.

If no transponder can be read within five seconds, the unit switches off the reading mode and returns to Stand-By: the display shows "No Tag"

The transponder can be assigned a text (second line on the left) and an attribute (second line on the right), e.g. animal name and location (pasture, stable, etc.)
In the default setting, the available 27 attributes are set to A to Z (capitol letters) and # (= no attribute) . Any text with up to 14 characters can be assigned to each of these attributes

Reading Distance
The typical reading distance between the handheld reader and a transponder is 10 to 40 cm and depends on various criteria:
Angle at which the antenna and transponder are positioned in relation to each other.
Size and type of transponder
Temperature range
Environmental conditions
Electrical interference
Metal
Other ISO readers
Internal Memory
When a reading has been successfully accomplished, the reader checks its internal database to see if the transponder code is already stored:
If the code does not yet exist, it is integrated into the database as a new data record. In addition to the code, the transponder type, date and time as well as any attributes are also stored in the database.
If the code already exists in the database, a new data record is only created if the attribute is different.
If the code and attribute are the same, no new data record is stored. In this case, the reader emits two successive beeps.
